One Sunday afternoon me and Miss Kim were talking after seeing Dave Insley and Dale X. Allen at a Bill Bowker/KRSH show the night before. We got to talking about how there’s all these great bands and songs out there that just flat-out deserve a better listening than they’ve been getting. So I turned to Miss Kim and said‚ “I know... let’s start a record label! I mean, what’s Britney got that them Bays Boys don’t have more of?” You see, me and Miss Kim love that Americana roots music with screaming steel, twin fiddles, telecasters, accordions, skinny drummers and funky bass dudes.
It’s
a special time right now in American Music. Seems there’s more
great pickers out there than at any time in the last 30 years. All
the stuff I’ve loved since the early days with the New Riders,
Marshall Tucker, Pure Prairie League, David Allan, the Burrito Brothers,
the Pleasant Valley Crow Brothers, Merle (Haggard and Watson), the
Commander’s Airmen and the Blue Ridge Rangers, to name a few.
Most any night somewhere in America the Alvin Brothers are holding
forth, or Moe-D is swinging it, or Lonesome Dave Insley is getting
more famous or Junior Brown is doing his damndest to rip a hole in
the sky with his guit-steel. Just to name a few.
So we’ve rounded up some of the best we’ve heard and put them on these CD’s. It’s our way of helping worthy folks get heard‚ get played and get paid. Some you heard of already‚ some ya ain’t. Every song‚ every phrase‚ every note on these compilations is handpicked for maximum righteousness. Shit-hot picking‚ singing with a Twang‚ catchy tunes and clever lyrics. Our first one is called “Hand Picked, Volume One.” It ain’t Nashville‚ little too country for that — but it is Red Dirt‚ and California cosmic cowboy‚ and Texas‚ and hillbilly‚ and honky-tonk... ‘round here we like our American with an extra “a” at the end... Americana... enjoy‚ it’s the Twangy-first Century.
